This Month's Bowling Ball Reviews

Motive Trident Nemesis

Ball Core Specifics:

Core Name: Sidewinder

Core Type: Asymmetrical

RG: 2.52

Differential: 0.049

Int. Differential: 0.013

Coverstock Specifics:

Coverstock Name: Infusion HV Pearl Reactive

Coverstock Type: Reactive Pearl

Box Finish: 5500 Grit LSP

Strengths

  • Good length and excellent response to friction on the lanes.

  • Angular turn towards the pocket

  • Good mid-lane control

Weaknesses

  • Strong angular finish can be difficult to control for high revolution bowlers if there is to much friction.

Summary

  • Low RG, medium differential and asymmetrical design which allows bowlers to open up their angles with strong down lane recovery.  Versatile drilling pattern options provide tons of flexibility but definitely performs better on medium oil patterns.

  • Able to retain energy and entry angle in transition.

  • Best when used after the lanes have broken down and are providing friction early in the pattern.

Storm All Road

Ball Core Specifics:

Core Name: Catalyst

Core Type: Asymmetrical

RG: 2.50

Differential: 0.052

Int. Differential: 0.017

Coverstock Specifics:

Coverstock Name: GI-20 Pearl Reactive

Coverstock Type: Reactive Pearl

Box Finish:  3000 Abralon

Strengths

  • The new GI-20 Pearl Reactive coverstock does an excellent job maintaining down lane recovery with a strong move at the back of the lane.

  • Versatile

  • Reads the middle of the lane well on fresh medium to oily patterns without loosing down lane reaction.

Weaknesses

  • Strictly beneficial on medium patterns.  If lanes move towards either end of the oil spectrum this ball becomes less effective.

Summary

  • The new coverstock and pearlized finish provides some versatility and creates a great move towards the pocket on medium patterns or oily patterns in transition.

Columbia 300 Baller

Ball Core Specifics:

Core Name: Nucleus

Core Type: Asymmetrical

RG: 2.52

Differential: 0.056

Int. Differential: 0.018

Coverstock Specifics:

Coverstock Name: eTrax-P20

Coverstock Type: Reactive Pearl

Box Finish:  1500 Grit Polished

Strengths

  • Long length, high torque and exceptional total hook.

  • Quick response to friction and creates higher overall hook when compared to other shiny pearls put out by Roto Grip.

Weaknesses

  • High total hook and quick read at the breakpoint pushes bowlers inside early, potentially leading to over/under finishes at the headpin.

Summary

  • Great option for crankers, two-handed bowlers and those with high revolution releases on the ball.

  • Best suited for heavy oil conditions and high rev rates.

  • As lanes begin to transition those with medium to low rev rates may be able to play slightly down and in.
